To add to grind of wanting the best possible thing, I thought about a simple weapon upgrade system and was wondering what you guys thought of this:
What if we could upgrade any weapon in-game based on these stats:
-Damage
-Recoil
-Clipsize
Every weapon in-game has a number assigned to one of these values and it shouldn't be too difficult to change them, especially with our current inventory system.
Here's how it would work:
You search a dumpster, the transport truck, or some other sort of lootable entity, and can find one of the follow:
-Weapon Damage Mod Level 1, 2, 3, 4
For every level, this mod increases your weapon damage by 5%.
-Weapon Recoil Mod Level 1, 2, 3, 4
For every level, this mod reduces the recoil of your weapon by 5%.
-Weapon Clipsize Mod Level 1, 2, 3, 4
For every level, the clipsize of your weapon is increased by 5%.
To apply the mods, you would head to a workbench and apply the mod to the weapon of your choice. There'd be a cost associated with this. The way I've got it laid out, you'd be required to have the previous mod level before being able to apply the next higher level. So for example, if you have an AK-47 and want to apply the Recoil Mod Level 3, your Ak-47 must have Recoil Mod Level 1 and 2 previously installed before it will accept Level 3.
We could definitely grow with a system like this. For example, a rare "Fire Mod" where there's a 25% chance of your bullets igniting your target. Shit like that. With such a variety of mods that can be placed on weapons, there would be such a variety of weapons out there for people to build. This would be the best way to fix the constant complaint of people being bored of the usual M9k weapons and create a more interesting grind and marketplace in-game for these mods.
What do you think? This would be rolled out down the line once we've got the kinks out of our current gameplay resolved. I'm just thinking of more future-state and late game ideas.
